| Ohhhhhhhhhh, we are missing these babies, but are so excited that each one lives with a wonderful family of their own! By 9 wks of age, the babies were ready to have their own attention and to start their individual identities instead of being part of the group! Now we get the exciting part of keeping up with each one as they grow and mature into the beautiful BMDs that they are destined to become! | |

Sirius (AKA: Sam) male OFA Hips: Good, OFA Elbows: both Normal ![]() We had such a great trip home, "Sam" travels so great. He told us every time he needed to go potty. Of course it always took awhile, everyone had to talk to him. Vet trip is tomorrow, I know it will go fine. We just love him so much. Our other dogs are still trying to decide if a new puppy was ok with them or not. Our Springer "Guapo" has really warmed up to him, they run and play and talk to each other, it's hilarious. We are struggling with pottying outside but doing better. Thank You so much for such a wonderful puppy, he is everything we hoped he would be. My son thinks he is wonderful and can't leave him alone. This was the best Birthday present ever!! I will keep the updates and photos coming. ![]() ![]() ![]() Hey Shelly, Went a couple of weeks ago for our shots and we weighed a whopping 39lbs. at 13wks.! Have a feeling he might be big? Ha ha. Sam is just a blast! He has a lot of conversation going on, about everything. If you tell him no or if you tell him hi. He cracks me up, he just loves to help cook,(I'm sure it couldn't be that maybe food might fall). Sam is the most perfect, loving, funny, and personality filled dog. Now if we can just teach him to sleep past 5:00am. Oh yeah, he is the star at Puppy class, he gets to be the demonstration dog. Thanks again for such a great Baby! Sam had a wonderful BDay, he had a Skinny Cow and we ended up with about 14 inches of snow, so he had a really good day! Sam is growing like a champion, can't believe how big he is getting. He goes to work most days with my husband. They know him by name at Lowe's and Home Depot. And is so well behaved in public, I think he saves the craziness for home. Ha ha They stop and get an ice cream cone most days, they are Sam's favorite. We are enjoying this baby so much, maybe someday he will realize he's a little big to sit on our laps, but we love it when he tries. We are about to start training with a harness. Then we will work on pulling the cart. Thank you so much for such a wonderful baby 1/11 update: Our Sam Dog is doing soooo well, and we are so grateful. We have had a little bout of allergies, but have that all taken care of now. We did get his X-rays done earlier this week and they should have everything sent to OFA this week. The Vet thought it all looked good, no problems. Sam weighed in at 116lbs. He is so wonderful and is enjoying the Colorado Cold. Going through a bit of unsureness sometimes with some men, but most of the time he just loves everyone and they love him as always. I will try to get some pics sent to you soon, until then Thank You so much for such a wonderful pet. Sam is a big boy, especially when he sits in your lap or lays on top of me in bed. Sometimes I think he is going to push all the air out of me. But soooo loving and kind to other animals. I am so happy with this breed. He is on Dick Van Patton's Natural Balance sweet potato and chicken, but we had found some treats on sale, they were science diet. The vet thought the corn was doing it so no more of those, poor baby. His ears were red and eyes were red and he was sooo itchy. I feel really bad. But that seemed to have fixed it when we quit with the treats. We must be doing something right, because we are working on all of the things you just outlined with his unsureness with some men. Not to happy at the Vet's office sometimes. It doesn't matter which Vet either. I wondered if it might be the close quarters and so many people in one room just looking at him. People tend to stare when he walks in, haha But we are doing everything you talked about. I thought it might be age specific. When I get the Cert on his X-rays I will forward a copy to you. |

Orion (AKA: Gunner) male Home vet report: Hips good/ both elbows normal ![]() Dear Shelly, We are loving him soo much!! He has been such a show stopper! Everyone just ewwws and ahhhs over him and he loves every second! I took him to the vet yesterday and she said he was "Perfect"! We are finally getting some sleep around here, I think Wednesday really wiped him out. We only woke up once last night. And he even let me sleep in a little ;) I was starting to get delirious..haha..but he makes it all worth it. He is already 95% potty trained..Yesterday, he was wondering around the house and for a minute it was quite so I went looking for him and he was in the backyard going #2! I was so happy! We only had 2 pee accidents so far in the house. He is such a good boy. I just want to thank you for raising him so wonderful as I can tell now that I have him home. I was especially thankful when I was at the vet yesterday because she told me she saw a berner puppy the day before that was from a bad breeder and didn't look very good so I just want you to know you did a great job!!! Diony Is dying to get home to meet our new son..Its killing him not to be here, but I'm sure by the time Diony gets home, Gunner will be potty trained on a good schedule. (All the hard parts) He is already taking to him new name too :) So we are all smiles here! I will send you some pics.. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Shelly, hope all is well up there in Oregon! I just wanted to touch base with you and let you know Gunner is AMAZING! I just love him so so so much.. He is finally realizing he is supposed to sleep through the night, but has been waking up a lot due to some new teeth coming in..I think he is in his mid 30's as far as lbs go, I will get an accurate weigh in 2 weeks when I take him for his shots. He is such a lazy boy though, he just likes to sleep and sleep. But when he hears me pick up the keys he knows he's going for a car ride and gets so excited! Him and our cat are living peacefully in the same home although Gunner thinks she's a dog sometimes and wants her to play. Everyone just loves him so much. I have had numerous people stop and get out of there car just to say hello to him. Its amazing and funny too! I swear I wake up every morning and say what happened to Gunner? you are so much bigger than Gunner, this just cant be!.. I wish I could just stay up all night and watch him grow.. But anyways He is amazing and THANK YOU for letting us have him. He truly is the highlight of my life!!! I've attached some pictures taken this past weekend, of how he naps everyday in the bathroom, upside down..and the huge bone he picked out at Petco all by himself then proceeded running in the direction of the front door, before I could even pay, it was hilarious! |

Rigel (AKA: Now Orion!) male OFA Prelim: Hips Excellent/both elbows normal ![]() ![]() Hey Aunt Shelly, I have been loving every second with my puppy!! Yesterday when he got here at my house we went out into the backyard and played. I ran around the yard and he followed me, he was full of energy because of the car ride. he seams to have an obsession with shoes. I have these ugly boots that I was wearing and when I took them off he decided to see what was in them. he stuck his face in the boot and took a hold of the bottom of the boot. this of course meant that his whole face was covered so he couldn't see. he proceeded to thrash his head about trying to be able to see all the while hitting his head on the door and wall. it didn't occur to him to let go of the boot... until I took it away from him. I took him to school with me and he followed me around the whole school; where ever I went he did. I just love him. he is sitting on my feet as I type this, just content to sit here chewing on my dad's hat that he stole from him(my dad loves him to so he gave him one of his old hats to play with). it is so fun. ![]() ![]() ![]() 4-21-09.......26.2 pounds Whine, whine, whine. I am so tired. I need a place to sleep where no one will see me! If only I could dig a hole in the linoleum so I could hide under the couch! (Dig, dig, dig, FRANTIC dig, dig, dig.) This linoleum is impossible! I can't move it anywhere! Oh well, maybe if I put my head under the couch no one will notice I'm sleeping. After all, if I can't see them they must not be able to see me. Whine, whine, whine...zzzzzzzzzzzzz. ![]() ![]() Orion is now 7 mo. and 83 lbs. He is in obedience/conformation classes and doing great! Good job Christine!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() Family journey to Glenwood Springs... stopped for lunch in the canyon... fall colors are gorgeous.... Orion happy to be joining us!

| Talitha (AKA: Koda) female ![]() Koda was a great traveler on our 15 hour drive home. She is now adjusting to her new life with us in sunny California. The first few nights she sure missed her brothers and sisters but now she is becoming more independent each day. We absolutely love her and she has already brought so much happiness to our home. ![]()
![]() Sorry for the long delay in updating you on Koda, but she has been keeping us quite busy. She is doing wonderful. She is now about 46 lbs and such a sweetheart. We take her everywhere now, and she is quite the show stopper. We took her to a fundraiser and there was literally a line of people wanting to meet and pet her :-) She has become very comfortable in the car and looks forward to adventures with us. We have been to two group obedience classes and already see improvements. She is a very smart girl. She had her first experience at the lake last weekend and loved it! We are excited, she seems like she will enjoy the water! We are getting some sad reports on Koda. She seems to have some orthopedic issues. Around 3- 4 mo. of age she had the first signs of HOD. We all feel blessed that she healed without any complications. She has recently started limping in the rear, and it looks like we have an early appearance of Hip Dysplasia. Our hearts break as we see one of our own affected with the nasty problem, but we are so grateful that she has a loving family to help her through this. We will keep updates posted as she faces this new challenge. Koda is doing ok, some days are better than others, she is continuing on pain medication. We are waiting to hear back about the films that were sent to a specialist out of town, we should hear back this Friday or Monday, the vet and specialist will then probably direct us to meet with an orthopedic surgeon to discuss her best course of action. We are willing to do whatever is recommended for her. Thanks for your concern and support. I am sending a couple recent pictures of Koda. She likes to watch TV and rest her head on the coffee table :-) She is around 80 lbs. right now. ![]() Koda is now 2 years old and seems to be still holding her own. She has not had the total hip replacements at this point, but seems to be controlled with exercise. Although the problem has not gone away, it is currently manageable. 1/30/12: We thought you might like an update on Koda as she approaches her 3rd birthday. Attached are a few pictures of her recently. We are so grateful that she has continued to remain healthy! No issues related to HOD or hip dysplasia. She is the most loving, kind dog we have ever experienced and we can not imagine our lives without her. Thanks so much! ![]() ![]()

Polaris (AKA Monty) male ![]() He had his first play with another 6 mouth old puppy that was in the vets and thoroughly enjoyed it. Life is great with him and has settled in with no problems. He is even telling us when he has to go outside to relieve himself (banging on the sliding door which leads to our back garden). He still can't make it through the night even with a midnight break, but that's all right, after all he is still a baby. We got a couple of brochures (that were recommended by the vet) on dog obedience training so will be researching them. Thanks again Shelly for letting Monty be part of our lives. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Here's some pics from Montys' (Polaris) 1st birthday. He's a big boy now (102 Lbs.) and full of fun and love. He is still as beautiful as the day we picked him him and still draws all the attention when we are out 2/1/12: Dearest Shelly It is with a sadden heart that I 'am e-mailing you to let you know that we lost Monty (aka Polaris) in the wee hours of Jan 4/12. We had taken him to our regular kennels on the 3rd of Jan as we were going on vacation (a 3 week cruise) early Jan 4th. He was happy as always and knew the kennels as if it was his 2nd home as we had always used them and that was where Monty took his obedience classes. He had a slight eye infection infection which required drops every 6 hours. At midnight the wife of the owner got up to administer his drops and found Monty having a seizure. We don't know when the seizure began or what could have triggered it as he had never had one before. They immediately phoned us with the devastating news and while talking to us the seizure kept continuing. We asked them to take him to the emergency vet available to them and there was a 24 hour vet who they immediately called. They had to put Monty on a sling and get him into the car as he was such a big boy. All the time they were in constant contact with us and Monty was still seizing. Once at the vet, he had a "grand Mall" seizure and at that point the vet couldn't bring him out of it. Upon trying several anti-seizure drugs it wasn't until they doubled up on the last most potent drug he finally came out of it. At that point Doug and I had the horrendous decision to make as to whether or not to let him go humanely. He had lost all control of his bladder, liver and other organs. Because his temp was so high for so long and as a result of seizing uncontrollably for so long his faculties were completely gone, in fact he was no longer the Monty we knew and loved so much that it wasn't fair to him to live his life like that. So we made the tragic decision to let him go peacefully. We couldn't even be with him as it is about 1/1/2 hrs to to his kennel and we were due to catch a plane at 6 that morning. Once at the airport we called the vet again and they reassured us that we had made the right decision. It has been so hard, it wasn't until a week later that we contacted our daughter to let her know, and also contacted the kennel. We were on holiday for 3 weeks and then Doug returned home and I went directly to England to see our daughter for a week as her husband had gone out of town and they have a brand new baby. So to be truthful I don't think I fully dealt with the loss until arriving home yesterday at which point I again went to pieces. Today has been just as bad but wanted to get this off to you as I know you would be concerned. Monty touched the lives of everyone who ever met him. When taking him for a walk thru the village all the shops would let him come in and most had a treat for him. On his 2-3 walks daily he was a regular around the parks and everyone had to stop and say hello. He was always so friendly, in fact that is what most people would say as soon as they met him. He just had that special quality about him. Before going on vacation he had started his volunteer work at the extended care facility I worked for. I really don't know how I'm going to handle telling the residents of Monty's demise but will eventually. Probably in a couple of weeks I will go in. |

Mira (AKA: Maia) Cool! a
star name! female OFA Hips: Good , Both elbows: Normal ![]() Mama Shelly, Forgive me for not writing to you sooner concerning the trip back from Utah. We had to stay in Salt Lake an extra day, due to road closures. But we made the best of the day, by taking Maia to a wonderful park we found. My friend, Adele has assured me that Maia is a magnet. She was walking her at the hotel and a young, nice looking, man came running out of the pool area and wanted to find out all the information he could about Maia. Of course, Adele's husband is glad that Maia belongs to me. Ha! Once we were on the road, Maia did well. She did not like the crate, but when she was let out and placed in the back seat, she was satisfied. Whenever we stopped she would do her business and on we went. It was an eight hour drive and we were all happy to get home. She met her new sisters, Cidney (Australian shepherd) and Hannah (Shetland sheepdog). Cidney stays with her always, and helps me with her. She goes outside with her and plays constantly with Maia. Hannah would rather ignore her. All my friends just love her and want to know when I will be leaving on a trip so they can puppy sit. Ha! We visited the vet at 10 weeks and she was 20.8 lbs. They gave her a once over and said "What a healthy pup". Made me feel real good and shows how much you love your animals. Thank you for all your help and patience with all our wonderful pups. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Good morning. I thought an update of Maia might be in order. She is currently 28Lb at 12 weeks and doing well. She is a love and I am so glad that I got her. Her personality is great and disposition wonderful. She loves everyone. She is going to be attending an obedience class starting the 7th of May. Just to watch and get acquainted with all the people, kids, and animals. Everyone can't wait to meet her. I know she will have a wonderful time. Here are some pictures that say they are jpeg. Hopefully this one works. Ha! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() We have been traveling all over and having such fun. We are in obedience now, and went to see our first draft trials. Lots of Berners were there and I could get an idea as to how big she is going to get. How awesome. We saw some pups in her age group, but she was so much more beautiful. A lot of Berner people came up to see Maia. They all wanted to know where I got her. I told them, so be prepared Shelly. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() All is going well. Maia goes to obedience class starting this Friday. She is already a good walker. She pulls at times, but is usually pretty good. She loves going to the dog park, but we only stay 15 to 20 min. at a time. That is more than enough time for her to run and have fun with the other dogs. She is such a sweet heart. We were on a walk the other day and a lady says, "Hey, your dog is smiling", "She must be a really happy dog". Made me feel real good. We learned quite a bit when we went to the dog show. She did not place or anything, but she was awesome. The last picture is the back yard of my daughter's house in CA. She is 7 mo and 85# now. Big girl. Love it. Hello there! Update on Maia. I took her to a vet. in Denver. I was so happy that he did the procedure without any anesthetic. He stated to me when it was done, she will never have any problems with her hips or elbows. :) Her results have been sent to OFA. Fantastic! What a great girl. I should hear back from OFA in about two weeks. I can send you anything you might need at that time. She will be back in the show ring May 1st. I am able to start on her obedience training, since the snow has let up. She was doing great in cadaver training, but I have pulled her from that for shows. Hopefully we will get back to work on that after all the dog shows. Things are rolling right along. She is going to be measured for her harness on April 21st. She is one busy puppy. She is so sweet and loves everything Just wanted to comment on Maia, my friend's "pup". I have never been around Berner's before and even had to ask what is that, when my friend told me she was getting a Berner. I am a mini-schnauzer lover myself. HOWEVER, knowing and loving Maia has made me a believer! She is absolutely the sweetest dog (aside from my schnauzer, of course) I've ever been around. She has a wonderful home with my friend and you'll never have to worry about her being cared for. She is loved by many! I'm sure she told you that Maia placed in her latest show and I have high hopes for her future. She's not only a real love but a champion in the making! Yes! We understand that Maia received Winner's Bitch & Best Opposite:) Great job everyone!! And still a puppy!!! ~Shelly Here are a few pictures of Maia at the show in Greeley. Her brother Orion was there and they got to see each other for the first time in over a year. He is gorgeous too! This is what I have been doing with my summer. The guy in the jacket is her new handler. On Sat. she got 4th place and on Sun. she placed third. Not too bad for a major show. Maia is 18 month old. Maia on left and Orion on right ![]() |

Chertan (AKA: Rupert) male No 2 year OFA report in at this time ![]() Hi Shelly, Sorry it took me til now to let you know how the trip home was. Little Chertan did well on the big trip up to Canada. He "HATES" his crate, literally screams, when I put him in it, so we will have to do some work on that. The staff at the Holiday Inn just sort of shuddered when I was checking in with him. I just smiled and explained that he had just left his littermates and was very scared. The evening at the hotel was good. He did settle down when I took him out of the kennel. We had a fairly good sleep thru the night with not too much crying....He woke up 2 times. Once after he pee'd he went right back to sleep. The other he was missing home. He cried and whined for about a half hour, and despite my soothing, he was just missing home. I would have to suppose the plane ride hasn't helped matters with the crate training in mind. We will have to work on that. He didn't poop in the kennel on the ride home which I was very happy and surprised about. NWA staff seemed to be good with him, and I was assured on both flights before take off that he was loaded on board. Both times I watched him being loaded onto the plane from our departing gate. Gave me the peace of mind that I needed. We do love him so much already, and believe him to be the most adorable, but we haven't seen his calm, mellow, quiet side yet. He is very vocal and boisterous with us. I have noticed that even when he is playing with a toy or eating he is still whimpering, whining or outright barking. Maybe he is missing all the noise from the litter. He seems fearless. When we arrived home, he was not at all shy or cautious about his surroundings. When I took him to the vet yesterday morning he checked out well health wise. No concerns. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Hi Shelly, Hope all is well with you and your family. I just thought I should give you a short update about little Rupert. Who I have to say, isn't staying very little. He is almost too heavy to carry around. I had him at the vet today. Weighed in at 29.6 lbs. I am curious if he is keeping up with his littermates. I want you to know that Rupert is truly a joy. He is beginning to learn sit, stay, lie down, and come. He loves to be brushed, and to be playing with me whenever he gets the chance. We have had so many compliments about how cute, and calm he is. He just "goes with the flow" with pretty much everything we do. Which is exactly what I was hoping for. ![]() getting just a hair bigger! |

Kakkab (AKA: Hollis) male No 2 year OFA in at this time ![]() ![]() It is good to hear from you. I'm sorry I haven't been keeping you more up to date on Kakkab a.k.a. "Hollis or Holli-boy" around the neighborhood. He is doing great and growing nicely. We took him to the vet last week for a check-up, and he weighs in at a comfortable 45 lbs. He is great. We feel like we travel around with a rock star. People stop us and want to just look at him. They say he is the cutest dog they have ever seen. Of course, we agree with them, but we know we might be a little partial as well. We've been continuing his training for basic commands, and decided to take it a step further, and teach him sign language for each command. He has responded quite well and it is amazing how quickly he has learned the signs. As I mentioned earlier, he is a staple in the neighborhood and people come over just to see him. We're lucky if they say "hi" to us at all. Most of our neighbors are amazed at how calm and mellow he is for being a puppy, also how well he gets along with children. We love him and thoroughly enjoy having him in our lives. Thanks again.
