Swiss Silhouette Kennel's Litter "H"
(Theme: Sweet Harmony)
Kelleyz Classic Harmony 2 Good 2 B True RN  x CH Windraider Zuppke's Flea Flicker CGC,  RN (aka "Zea")
Whelped on 1/29/2010
This breeding was an accident.  We weighed the choices of ending the pregnancy to letting her carry it through and with careful consideration, the advice of our veterinarian, and the thoughtful advice from other breeders, we decided to let her carry this litter.  We have worked closely with our vet to make sure that Harmony had proper nutrition and exercise to keep her in great shape while she carried the litter.  Now that they have arrived, we will continue the same regime so that the pups do not take too much from her at this stage.  We want to thank all those who had previous experience and helped this be a successful litter.  The negative impact of this litter is that Harmony is still young and developing, and she has not had all of her clearances.
We have 5 wonderfully healthy girls.  Again, another litter that is beautifully marked.  All have symmetrical faces, 4 white feet, and nice white tips on their tails.  One girl has a small Swiss Kiss (white patch) on the back of her neck, but that will completely disappear. All puppy names reflect a musical part.  Remember that this was an unplanned litter, but sometimes the best compositions come by "accident".

Week 1

What sweet and gentle babies.  You will notice that there are 6 puppies in the picture. That is because Harmony has adopted Pip from Bindi's litter.  It has been remarkable to watch Pip thrive, Harmony accept him, and Bindi still care for him when I bring him to her.
This has been a great experience for our boys as we show how adoption works.  Both moms love deeply, but one can provide what the other could not.  It seems that God always has a way of teaching us through our dogs...

Week 2 update:
The puppies are growing steadily and nicely.  Still a content bunch of girls.  They all opened eyes this last Wednesday, but still look like some really high quality guinea pigs:)!  Next week they should start to look like some puppies!  I will introduce some solids this coming week as they also seem eager to taste everything and are acting ready.  Harmony is a top notch mom.  She has figured out how to navigate with out injuring any babies, she watches carefully to make sure visitors don't lift the pups to high off the ground, and keeps an extra high patrol that no other dog "peeks" at her nest.  She lets kids visit at will, but watches adults suspiciously when they take a puppy.

Week 3 update:
They have now arrived at a true puppy state.  They have also started to bark, howl, wag tails, and attempts at pounces...but not to coordinated yet.  They can chase mom down at amazing speed:)!  They are eating soaked puppy kibble, Taste of the Wild, turkey, beef, cottage cheese, yogurt, berries, bananas, pumpkin, and zucchini.
These pups appear to be very mellow, but we will see what next week brings.  In the photo's I have tried to catch a side view of the head and a straight on shot.  At three weeks you can get an idea of what shape their heads will be.
They certainly respond to human interaction and love cuddling down in a lap.  Hopefully we don't start some bad habits and create 100 + lb. lap dogs!!  Oh, I forgot...They ALL (meaning Berners in general) think they are lap dogs!

Harmony and pups have moved over to the bigger box.  Bindi's moved out as they were crawling over the side. Ariel has not arrived here yet, but we are beginning to prepare her whelping area now too.  Lots of big boards separating moms so no sneak peeks from each other.  The moms can be best friends when out of their  boxes, but they have a ZERO tolerance policy if one of them dares to look in the wrong "nest."
4 Week update:
The puppies have hit that playful stage:)!  Lots of little barks, tail pulling, and nose chewing.  It is hilarious to watch one of them drag a toy that is bigger than themselves around, or have a mild tug of war.
I have just started to bring the puppies into the kitchen as their little legs are getting stronger and less likely to slip out from under them on the slick surface.  They have also had a short visit outside while the weather was nice, but it was short.  Cold wind is not their favorite thing yet!
I have started letting them have some crunchy kibble mixed in with their soft food.  They seem to chew very easily now.  My toes were trying to tell me they were ready....

5 Wk. update:
They are no longer cooped up inside!!  They seem to handle the chilly temps, wind, and when I think they should be keeping warm in the sun, they are seeking out the shade...so they are ready:)!  Of course, there really is not a away to keep them separated from litter G, so they all play outside.  I think this may be helping this group develop a little faster as they have some very fast little legs and put the bigger pups in their places when an unfair tackle takes place.  All pups seem to have a very adventurous streak, but still don't wander too far from the house.  Their favorite place is under our front porch which stresses Harmony and myself, but they always find their way out.

Couldn't help it!  This morning, my son's dog jumped in the whelping box and (she is spayed, and has never had pups) actually stood and let the pups look for snacks.  They are completely unbiased as to who might pass by!  Zea will do the same thing until the teeth find sensitive spots...then he leaves!

yogurt and banana snack:)

Wk. 6 update:
note the Bissel...good investment!:)
Some very serious ear cleaning!
Glee is about to loose the block
Coda
We are not sure why they are so enamored with the under the table, but they love it.  They love playing in and out of the chairs, then they find a spot and crash.

Yes, she is sweet..but she knows how to say something is hers too!

7 Wk. update:
All pups are doing great.  Harmony has actually weaned them already.  They tend to get snacks from Bindi now being that Bindi has been slower to want to totally wean.  Harmony loves to play with her pups and watch over them, but is not interested in any more of this nursing stuff.
Over all, this litter seems a little more compact that our previous litters.  They are slightly shorter on leg, very "boxy," and of course they seem to have that nice heavy bone.  These pups are people lovers too and always looking for a willing person to love on them.

8 wk. update:
We have arrived! Monday the evaluations take place, Tuesday you all find out which baby is yours:)!  These are some very precious little pups.  Each one is FULL of herself, out going, and of course cute.  What I have really liked about this litter is the "type" that they have.  They are very boxy, have that square appearance, and lots of bone.  I hope they mellow out some like dad and mom, but right now they are little spit fires.  Happy, but spit fires.  Each one of them absolutely craves people.  It is impossible to walk across the yard with out one or more of them attaching to your pant legs.  All they want is for you to reach down and pick them up.  These guys have personality +:)

a great tackle on our visitor.  A 6 mo. old English Mastiff.

Hi Shelly. I have not forgotten you. My son had pneumonia the week after Cadence came home and once we were able to get him healthy we all came down with a stomach bug.  I am just trying to get caught up. I will send you a quick picture from my phone. We start puppy class tonight so it should be exciting. Hope you and your family are well and I will talk with you soon. Keep in touch!
Hi Shelly, Sorry this took so long to get back to you. Nakona went to the vet on Friday and she weighs 31.7 pounds. She is such a goofy girl and we love her to bits. She thinks that she is starving all the time, so she hasn't changed much(still eating for 3). She loves to lay on your feet so you know for sure she is a berner. We sent a couple photos and we will get a few more to you in a few days.

Have a great night.
